Youth Community Rowing
The ultimate summer experience for teens
— ROWING ON THE WESTPORT RIVER —
We are happy to announce, in conjunction with the Westport Recreation Department we are offering a low-cost Community Youth Rowing program, "Rowing on the Westport River" (formally Community Youth Rowing) run by dedicated volunteers and Will Mahoney.
This program gives teens, grades 6th-12th, the opportunity to row Gig's and Dories on the East Branch of the Westport River. Participants learn the basics of rowing, boat handling, water safety and enjoy working as a team to get the boat to move!
Gig's and Dories are flat bottom boats with high flaring sides. The seats are stationary and do not move. The team rows together in rhythm while a coxswain sits at the front and instructs the team.
*It is a requirement for all of the participants who register to know how to swim.
*An email will go out before the program to let you know what to wear and bring.
